"As a global community, our actions reflect our connection to many systems that span the globe. By recognizing the humanity we share and expanding one's knowledge of the struggles and trials that human beings bear, we can act to relieve them."
Through the Global Studies courses that I have taken, my relationships with the environment, my culture, and humanity as a whole have truly been reshaped. I've become more aware of how our actions affect others around the world. We might not see the effects of our actions right away, or even at all, but we are more interconnected with each other than ever before. We all have a responsibility to one another and to our planet. How we live our every day lives have an effect much greater than ourselves, especially towards our environment. As a global community, we have to recognize our role in the state of our planet and that we must act responsibly.
We must simply also just become aware of others, of other countries, of other cultures. Interacting with other cultures has influenced my beliefs about my own. When you live in another community for a period of time, you are opened up to new ways of living. You question their lifestyles, and then you begin to question your own. Whether it's the different paces in which we live our lives, the differences in what we value as important, or the ways in which we treat one another, we all have different ways of living, and they are all okay. I think that becoming globally aware of other cultures is important for human growth, and it's inevitable that whenever you experience living in another community, you take a part of them with you wherever you go.
